Originally form Alberta, Andrée-Julie Tardif has lived, made art and studied in Edmonton, Ottawa/Hull, Montréal and Toronto.

She is fascinated by spaces: interior, exterior, empty or full and the relationship humans have to them. How is it that humans appropriate personal space? How does an object define an aspect of personality?

These questions have been shaping her work throughout her BFA, which she obtained form l’Université du Québec à Montréal (2005), as well as the Summer Residency (2007) and the Independent Studio Residency (2008) she has recently completed at Toronto School of Art.

Since leaving Alberta in 1999 Andrée-Julie’s work has been exhibited in Edmonton, Hull, Montréal and Toronto where she currently lives, paints and volunteers. Her medium is oil on canvas as it is the perfect surface to explore the illusion of space and doesn’t dry too fast.
